Tactile Defensiveness

Tactile defensiveness is the tendency to react negatively or emotionally to unexpected light touch sensations.

Individuals that demonstrate tactile defensiveness are hypersensitive to touch. They might be irritated by the tag in their shirt, or be more aware when their hands are dirty. In some cases, this defensiveness negatively impacts function. If so, our occupational therapists are here to help–schedule a consult today!
