Ball Skills

The collective term for any gross motor activity involving a ball including throwing, catching, and kicking. Ball skills require a strong foundation of motor skills and sensory processing. Balance, bilateral coordination, eye-hand coordination, and strength are all key for playing catch!

Learning to catch a ball starts by corralling a ball while sitting by 1 year old. Kicking a ball begins around 18 months old when a child is able to lift their foot to contact a ball. If you have any concerns about your child’s throwing, catching, or kicking skills, reach out to our team!
