Adaptive Equipment (A/E)

Adaptive equipment (A/E) includes devices that help an individual achieve optimal performance and independence in their everyday activities.

  • Examples of adaptive equipment:
    • Pencil grips to improve grasp during writing or drawing
    • Long-handled shoe horns to increase independence with putting on shoes
    • Walkers to increase independence with getting around
A smiling child in a wheelchair with long brown hair and wearing a green tank top uses an adaptive fork with a wide handle to eat pasta. An adaptive plate guard prevents food from being pushed off the plate and allows the child to pick up the food more easily.
